Coming from a background in carpentry, Mike Nicholas decided in 1965 to start his own carpentry company.  A firm dedicated to bring efficiency to the traditional aspects of residential carpentry.  By planning for a large scale and wide ranging operations from the very beginning, the cost cutting capability of the organization and the management structure led to eager acceptance and rapid expansion.

We have framed and trimmed thousands of dwellings units, large and small, in every price range.  This encompasses not only single family detached housing, but also town homes, condos and apartments.  In order to do this, we have utilized the talents, at times of over 1000 dedicated and talented employees.

On the basis of that proven dependability and quality, we have expanded in Arizona through our formed subsidiaries, U.S. Carpentry and U.S. Components. We brought the same technology and high level of craftsmanship that we are known for in Chicago.

After selling the original company, Michael Nicholas Inc. in 2003, we concentrated on carpentry and home building in Arizona. In 2010 we re-entered the Chicago area as Woodmark.
